Equilibrium equations for nematics are nonlinear coupled partial differential equations. When the director is confined on a plane and the variables depends only on theradius in cylindrical coordinates, these eq uations are reduced considerably. The exactsolutions of the reduced equations are obtained even when the three elastic constantsare different and a magnetic field exists. They are in general expressed in terms of theelliptic intergrals. The effect of boundary conditions are examined and structure Iransitions induced by the change of geometry of the boundary are obtained.
