The transverse plane waves propagating in the horizontal direction in an un-bounded binary fluid mixture having vertical temperature and concentration gra-dients are investigated in the presence of the Soret effect. It is shown that undampedwaves cannot exist since the conditions for the propagation of undamped waves con-tradict the stability criteria for the undisturbed basic state. It is also shown thatweakly damped waves can exist under the conditions that the undisttarbed basic stateis stable.
