The well known formula of isotropic diffusio?a coefficient D. of electrons doesnot give exact values of lateral diffusion coefficient D. under an electric field. D.implies the ensemble average of the instantaneous probability of diffusion, whileD. is obtained as the time average of diffusion flux. The cause of the discrepancybetween D. and D. is the change of the collision frequcncy within respectiveflights of electrons due to the electric field. Problems concerning D. and 07 aremade clear from relevant quantities calculated by the analytical method and bythe Monte-Carlo simulation for various model cross sections.
