The effective dielectric constant of a tunnel junction of identical superconduc-tors is calculated with use of the Kramers-Kronig dispersion relation. At I=0,a new expression for the renormalized capacitance of a weakly coupled junctionis derived which is parametrized by ,v= e'/2CA ; the ratio of electrostatic chargingenergy to the superconducting gap A. For ,v<<1 the results agree with the recentcalculation of Eckern, Sch6n and Ambegaokar. Significant differences are foundfor ,X'>1: The renormalization is strongly reduced and remains finite for J=0.The theory finds useful application in the theory of phase ordering in granularsuperconductors.
