The EPR of Mu" in NH,(Br single crystals has been studied at X-band in thetemperature range from 573 K to 77 K. At room temperature, an isotropicspectrum (spectrum-I) comprising a sextet superimposed on a broad line is ob-served. On heating the crystal up to 400 K the sextet disappears due to explu[sionof Mu" impurity from the crystal. On lowering the temperature, the isotropicspectrum-I disappears about at 230 K and a new spectrum (spectrum-II) appearsbelow this temperature. The spectrum-II is highly anistropic and unusual and isbelieved to be due to very large zero field splitting of Mn". Spectrum-I is at-tributed to Mn" ions substituting for NHJ with charge compensating NHJvacancies far away from Mn" ' . The transformation of spectrum-I into spectrum-IIis attributed to the structural transformation of NH?Br.
