EPR and Ionic Thermocurrents Experiments on Cubic Solid Solutions Sr_<1-x>Eu_xF_<2+x>

In this paper we rcport about the results of [PR and ionic thermocurrents(ITC) experiments on cubic solid solutions of the type Sr. ,Eu,F..,. A part ofthe Eu-ions is in the divalent state; these Tons can be detected easily with EPR.From the EPR results we conclude that for Ofi,vfiO.ll5 the long range order isstill cubic and the lattice parameter does not vary appreciably. The interactionsbetween distant Eu" -F.- dipoles and the Eu" probes is estimated; from thiswe conclude that for x>0.044 clustering of trivalent Eu-tons cannot be excluded.The ITC results are in line with those obtained from EPR. In addition we notethat for small values of x nearest neighbor (NN) Eu"-F. complexes are thedominant defects. For ,X'>5.10 ' NNN dipoles are present also. Apart from thereorientation bands associated with the abovementioned defects we observe withITC a depolarization peak, ascribed to space charge phenomena. The behaviorof the dipole peaks and the space charge peak is discussed together with theconduction processes in concentrated solid solutions Sr. .Eu,F....
