Temperature dependence of thermal conductivities of thallium halides, TICIand TlBr has been measured below room temperature. The thermal conductivitiesof both compounds were found to show an anomalous behavior apparentlydifferent from the typical lattice thermal conductivity behavior. The first wasthe occurrence of a broad conductivity minimum near 200 K unlike other alkalihalides showing the usual inverse temperature dependence above TOO K or so.The second was lower magnitude of the conductivities than those of the usualhigh-purity alkali halides by an order or two. These unusual characteristics arenot satisfactorily understood by any conventional models with regard to severalphonon scattering mechanisms in dielectric materials.
