Magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant K. of Fe.-.Si. (0.08<,v<0.25) inboth as-quenched and after-annealed samples was determined from torquemeasurements in 77 X 300 K, in order to make clear the difference in K. betweendisorder and order phase (DO, type) of Fe,Si at .lX'=0.25. The difference in K.between both the cases began to appear at x'::0.17, and values of K. for ,v=0.25were determined to be - I.0[ x and 0.94 x 10' erg/cm' at 77 K in the as-quenchedand the after-annealed, respectively. This difference in K. was apparently due tothe one in the degree of order in DO.; the former value was thought to be ofnearly perfect disorder in long range and the latter of perfect order. In any case,it was concluded that K. of Fe3Si is negative in disorder and positive in order(DO.).
