Mean field calculations are performed to study an Ising spin model on a tri-angular (actually hexagonal) lattice in which the couplings up to the next nearestneighbor and the magnetic field are taken into account. S)cecial attention isfocused on possible long-period modulated structtu'es at finite temperatures. It isshown that for antiferromagnetic couplings higher order commensurate structtu'eswith a triangular domain structure are stable in a wide temperature range. Themechanism stabilizing those structures is discussed explicitly by using domainboundaries as a key concept and the Ginzburg-Lan.dau type free energy. Finallythe theory is applied to the order-disorder transitiort of /7-eucryptite (/7-LiA1Si0.)and compared with experiment.
