A theoretical consideration in the formation of Kikuchi line concerning vibra-tional excitation is carried out from the double-scattering model of the Bornapproximation. The incident electrons excite a vibrationaN mode with an atomicdisplacement parallel to the incident wave vector. This result can be applied toestimate the magnitude of the surface rumpling.
