The friction coefficient, q, of chemisorbed atoms on metal surfaces, originatingfrom electronic fluctuation, is discussed on the Newns-Anderson model. Emphasisis put on the effects of electron correlation on the adatom, the resulting tem-perature dependence and position dependence of t7. The Ward identity is found tobe useful in deriving the compact expression for 77 in terms of the phase shift. Ananomalous temperature dependence of the surface diffusion coefficient is shownas a possible example to examine the effect of t7. Discussion is given on a relationbetween the expression of q and the "excess resistivity", which is also related tothe electromigration problem in bulk.
