The evolution of the wave packet of ionization v,'ave excited by a small pulsedperturbation is investigated in the He positive column of glow discharge. Thesecond differential coefficients of the wave number ;tnd the spatial growth rate arecalculated from the observed space-time diagram ncf the wave paclcet. The ratioof the number of the temporal to spatial oscillatic>ns included in the half widthof the packet coincides with the ratio of the group to phase velocities.From a part of the recurrence observed in the c:ontinuottsly modulated wave,the recurrence length is calculated. It almost agrees 'with the theoretically predictedone.
