X-ray diffractiota. studies were made on layer structures in the quasi-binarysystem Cut-Agl and their structural changes were iuavestigated by standing themat room temperature and by heating. The proportion of Cu to Ag in a crystalwas determined by the atomic absorption method. The following fa.cts wererevealed. The Cu,Ant -.1 crvstals have faulted 2H structures, v,'hich ofte:n coexistwith long-period polytypes, in the compositiott range 0<.v<0.025, the 41structure in 0.025<,v<0.034, the 4H structure immediately after growth in0.061<,v<0.092 and the 37? structure (the zincblende-type structure) itx 0.148<x<0.277. The 4H structure in the range 0.061<,v<0.092 changes to twins ofthe 37? at room temperature and this structural change occurs earlier witla increas-ing x value. The 37? structure is stable at high temperatures below 146'0over therange ,v>0.025. Reduc'ed lattice parameters of the layer structures decre?asewith the increase of Cu concentration and the Cu ion is substituted for tire Ag ion.
