Short Range Order Diffuse Scattering from ζ Phase Ag-Al

Diffuse scatterixxg due to short range order (SRO) of the hexagonal C phase,Ag-Al, has been studied by X-ray and electron diffraction methods. Intensitydistribution was measured in the reciprocal space at room temperature. Peculiardistribution was found such as a thin plate and a hinge shape on /z3=0 auxd 1planes in the c" direction, respectively. The maxima on these planes are shiftedfrom 1/3, 173, /73 and 2/3, 2/3, /73 positions. SRO parameters at,... of a singlecrystal of Ag -34 at. %A1 alloy have been determined by the Fourier transforma-tion of X-ray diffuse intensity. It has been found from the electron diffractionpatterns that the shift of the diffuse maxima from 1/3. 1/3, h. decreases almostlinearly with increasing Al concentratioiz. The Fermi-surface-imaging theoryse<bms to be appropriate to interpret the observations.
