The rate of equilibration of difference between the ion and electron temperaturesis obtained on the basis of the unified theory, in which the collective and binaryinteractions are both treated properly. The electrons obey the Fermi distributionof arbitrary degeneracy. The rxtc decreases owing to the degeneracy. Even in thenondegenerate case, the quantu.m effect appeares in the argument of the Coulomblogarithm. When the de Broglie wave length of the electron is much longer thanthe radius of close collision, the results agree with those obtained on the Bornapproximation. In the opposite limit, the classical theory applies. For othercases, graphical examples are given.
