Thermoelectric Power of Degenerate Magnetic Semiconductor

The thermoelectric power x has been measured for degenerate magnetic semi-conductor So. ,Mn.Te (.X'<0.19) with carrier concentration of (I -8) x 10"cm ' over a wide range of temperature 300 -4.2 K. The x-T curves of undopedcrystals (,X'=0) can be explained by the Rogers theoretical expression for ct whichtakes account of intravalley acoustic phonon scattering and two-valence-bandmodel, together with the variation of the band gap and carrier concentrationwith temperattu'e. In the Mn-doped crystals a has a contribution from ionizedimpurity scattering. In addition, their x-T curves show a maximum near 20-25 Kassociated with magnetic ordering. The anomalous thermopowers are comparedwith the Kasuya thcory, with the total angular momentum J=2 and paramagneticCurie temperattu'e &'=30-40 K. Also we found a small anomaly arotmd 150 Karising from a displacive phase transition of the host lattice.
