The behavior of the sideband wave is studied analytically in a one-dimensionalplasma in which a large-amplitude, monochromatic electron plasma wave isapplied. The distortion of the electron distribution function is calculated by theLiouville operator formalism. It is shown that the damping rate of the sidebandwave, which is proportional to the amplitude of the applied field under usualexperimental conditions, changes to be proportional to its square root in therestricted region.
