The density oscillations in a system composed of a one-dimensional coldelectron plasma and a cold electron beam are considered where the beam isassumed to be modulated sinusoidally and also to be bounded by a repeater in theplasma. A nonlinear differential equation which describes the density oscillationsin the beam-plasma system i:; derived from the Vlasov and Poisson equations. The equation does not take the so-called van der Pot-type, but is, as one of thelinear approximations, reduced to a Mathieu-type equation with an inhomogene-ous term :cl'p/dt'-f-co:(1 -o cos (oot)Jp=o(co' -coj) cos (cot). This inhomogeneous Mathieu equation is analyzed by the method of Bogoliubovand Mitropolsky. The spectrum of the characteristic freqttency obtained fromthe analysis is compared with the experimental results.
