The operative slip systems in CsCl-type intermetallic compounds are theoreti-cally examined ; our hypothesis is that a dislocation controlling the slip processproduces the least increase in the total energy when it is introduced into a crystalunder consideration. Using the inter-atom-row potential, the total energies of adissociated (111) screw dislocation and of a (001) screw dislocation are cat-culated and the results arc co?npared with the observed slip systems. It is foundthat the operative slip direction changes from (III) to (001) as the antiphaseboundary energy increases and that Feel which has been known to show anexceptional slip direction (111 ) can be satisfactorily fitted into this scheme.Furthermore, an attempt is rrtade to relate the a?atiphase bc>undary energy withthe magnitude of the composition dependence of the meltirug temperature, i.e.AT-/AC which can be easily obtained from the pltase diagram.
