The temperature dependence of the longitudinal NMR relaxation rate istheoretically studied for insulating ntagnetic sys;tems, in which the impurityelectronic spin has a substantia,[ crystal-field splitting and tlne decay rate of thetime dependent auto-correlation function of the impurity sj>in is dominated bythe spin-lattice relaxation. The theory was appliecl to the N:JR of F" in PrF.with snnall concentration of I'Jd" as impuriti<cs, which was performed byAukhadeev and Konov and rexzealed the electronic spin-la[tiecc relaxation narrow-ing of the NMR line-width a.bove 15 K. The present theccr'y can qualitativelyexplain the anomalous temperature dependence of the F" NMR line-width inthe system mentioned above. [Possible mechanisms of the broaderting of theNMR line-width are also corusidered. This report is the first to stuffy theoretically the NMR tt?trrowing due to thejoint effects of crystal-field and spin-lattice relaxation.
