The parametric decay instability which is excited llcy the CO. laser light (10"W/cm")in a high-pressure hydrogen plasma characterized by n.zl0"cm ', T.s2 -5keV,T. z 5 -10 keV is detected for the first time by the forw?ard scattering (4.3' -4- 0.3') of theruby Baser light. The wavenumber k is about 9 x 10' cm ' and the frequencies of thelow frequency wave co. and the high frequency wave co. are 3 x 10"rad/sec and1.6 x 10"rad/sec respectively. Considering co.-I-cta,zco...=1.S x10"rad/sec, the para-metric decay instability is excited by the electric field of the CO. laser. It is not clearwhether phonon-plasmon decay instability is excited or not.
