The existing formulae of the dipolar-sum tensor by the Ewald's method arerewritten in a simplified and well symmetrized form which is convenient fornumerical calculation and for observing the property of the tensor. By use of thisformula, the structure of the exciton bands originating from the first intramolec-ular dipole-transition in anthracene crystal is re-examined, with the result that thecalculation carried out b>' Davvdov and Sheka is found to have the numericalerrors when the wave vectors are perpendicular to the bc- and ac-planes. Anotherapplication is made to the crystal field expanded in powers of electron coordinates, the expansion coefficients being written in terms of the obtained lattice sums withthe zero wave vector. The result is useful in calculating the electronic states of tonsin the ionic crystal having lower symmetry and complicated structure.
