The equilibrium charge distributions resulting from 2.0-MeV nitrogen tonspassing through an N. gaseous target are presented. The modified slope methodis developed for determining charge-changing cross sections from the data ofnon-equilibrium charge fractions at low pressures. By changing the initial chargestate of the projectile tons, some of the cross sections of single and double electroncapture and loss were determined. The measured cross sections of single electroncapture are in good agreenvent with the tlteoretical calculations of Bohr-Lindhardand also with the semienxpirical values of Nikolaev et al. The measured crosssections of single electron loss are q uite different from the theoretical calculations.
