The volume of a solid solution is shown to have a characteristic behavior in itsconcentration dependence due to the effect of electron correlations. The volumehas a cusp at the concentration which gives the just half-filled valence band, ifcorrelations are sufficiently strong. For the purpose of an illustration, calculationsare practised with the use of the coherent potential approximation on the Hubbardmodel.
