Spin Alignment of the Ground-State Band Levels in Nd and Sm Isotopes Excited in (α, 2nγ) Reactions

Spin alignment of the ground-state band levels of ^<144>Nd, ^<148>Sm and ^<152>Sm excited in (α,2nγ) reactions is studied in detail by measuring precisely the anisotropy of the intra-ground-state band gamma rays. The degree of the spin alignment increases with the increase of the spin of the ground-state band levels. It depends little on the bombarding energies, the reaction Q values and the structures of the low-lying levels. A simple expression is obtained to describe the degree of the spin alignment in (particle, xnγ) reactions.
