X-ray Raman scattering by solids of light elements, lithium, beryllium, boron and carbon, was studied using Cr Ka radiation. Intensities of X-rays scattered at angles of 30°, 60°, 90°, 120° and 160° to the incidence direction were spectroscopically analyzed for each specimen of the above solids. The Raman band was distinctly observed except when the Compton band overlapped it. The shape of the Raman band is similar to that of the K-absorption spectrum of the solids. The short-wavelength edge of the Raman band is displaced from the peak of Rayleigh scattering, showing an energy loss corresponding to the K-electron binding energy of each element.
