The long-time tail of the Kubo-Toyabe relaxation function of spin polarization inzero-field is examined by a variational method and a numerical simulation. Theasymptotic exponential decay was found to be of the form, 0.2362 exp ( - l.562vZ),where v is the decay constant of the perturbing Gaussian random field. This decay con-stant is shown to be determined by the lowest eigenvalue of a confluenthypergeometric differential equation.
