Dynamical Studies of Magnetic Phase Transition in ErCrO_3 Induced by the Pulsed Laser Irradiation

The magnetic pltase transition from the antiferromagnetic to the weak-fer-romagnetic states in ErCr0. induced by the pulsed laser irradiation is studieddynamically with a spectroscopic method. The time necessary for completing thephase transition is 0.7 jts when Er" ions in the antiferromagnetic ErCrO. are seleclively excited by the tunable dye laser, in contrast with 0.4 ps when Cr" ions are excited by a ruby laser. The time is also measured under the various combination of temperature, excitation Baser power and magnetic field applied along the c axis. It isfound out that the Er-Cr magnetic interaction contributes mainly to the photo-induced phase transition. Their spin-spin relaxation time is obtained to be about 0.4 psat 2 K.
