The excitation functions for the simultaneous ionization and excitation of CO_2 by low energy electron-impact have been studied from thresholds to 400 eV. The excitation functions for both the A^^∼-X^^∼ and B^^∼-X^^∼ transitions of Co_<2^+> have broad peaks around 160 eV. The maximum value of the cross-section is (8.0±2.0)×10^<-17> cm^2 at 160 eV for the A^^∼-X^^∼ transition, and (4.7±1.2)×10^<-17> cm^2 for the B^^∼-X^^∼ transition, respectively.
