Additively or electrolytically colored Cd doped alkali halides give rise to a new band in the UV region besides the F band. The peak position and half width of this band in five alkali halides are reported. Thermal annealing of these crystals from temperatures greater than 500℃ leaves only an UV band which is attributed to colloidal cadmium particles, by a series of correlated optical, EPR and electrical conductivity studies.
