Far Infrared Absorption Spectra of H_2S and D_2S

By using a far infrared spectrometer with a variable depth grating, measurements of the pure rotation spectra of H_2S and D_2S have been extended into longer wavelengths from 300 to 1500 μm. The instrument is calibrated by the pure rotation spectra of H_2O, N_2O, and CH_3F. The accuracy of the measured wavelength is about ±0.2%. The transition frequencies of H_2S and D_2S are calculated according to the Kivelson-Wilson's formula. A comparison is made between the observed spectrum and the calculated spectrum, in which the relative intensities for D_2S are computed with the table of line strengths for rigid asymmetric rotor given by Cross, Hainer, and King. By combining the two microwave transitions reported by Burrus and Grody with the present data, the ground-state rotational constants(in cm^<-1>) are obtained: A=10.357, B=9.013, and C=4.727 for H_2S; they are obtained from the present data: A=5.489, B=4.511, and C=2.438 for D_2S.
