Expressions for the change in equilibrium constants K_x and K_p under the influence of electric and magnetic fields have been derived for a closed, homogeneous, isotropic system free from ferroelectric and ferromagnetic constituents. Exploratory results of the effect of a magnetic field (≃10,000 Oe) on a Fe^<3+> and Fe^<2+> "redox" equilibrium are discussed. This equilibrium containing the ferricyanide (paramagnetic) and the ferrocyanide (diamagnetic) ions was chosen since it involves large differences in the overall molar susceptibility of the two sides of the equilibrium.
