Dynamics of Intense and Finite Length Ion Beam Propagating in Plasma Channel

Tiraae evoltrtion of the distribution ftrnction of a finite length ion beataa propagating in a plasraaachannel is calculated and the obtained solution is valid for a long enotrgh titme to utilize it f'or aniruertial confinetaaent ftrsion (ICF) driver. In order to obtain tlte tinue evolution of the distribtrtionftrnction of the finite length ion bearn, we solved the Nlaxwell-Vlasov equations. And also a profileof' 21 rettrrn current which is indtrced by ?rn electromagnetic interaction between tlae ion beamand channel plasnaaa is calctrlated. The rettrrn current infltmences the tiume evoltmtion of' the ionbeauta and restrlts in nonlinear elects 011 the Vlasov eqtr?rtion. This nonlinear systeun is solvedusing perturbation taaethod xvith the ;rid of the operator unetlaod in order to avoid sectrlarityin the solution. We applied it to solve two interesting cases; the Gattssian beauaa unodel and ahollow be;ttn model. Frona a nuunerical estitaastte of the forces acting on the ion be;'tm, we cansee that the beam transport is tnore feasible with the hollow nmodel than the Gaussian model,becattse tlae Ton beauau diverges IIIOICI xvith the latter bearn by the radial electric field which isproportional to the radial gradient of' the charge density, At the beanu tail, the beartaa tends toslarink in both cases becatrse of the taaagnetic field, which is indtrced by tlae incotnpleteness of thectrrrent netttrality.
