The oxidation products at the uppermost surface of copper formed in dry air of various temperatures and pressures were studied by the electron diffraction method. The results were summarized in the temperature-pressure diagram (Fig. 1), which is divided into three regions, CuO-, Cu_2O- and Cu-Cu_2O-regions. The "three ring pattern", which has been attributed to an intermediate oxide between Cu_2O and CuO by Murison, was concluded to be a fibrous pattern of normal CuO. The boundary-lines of the regions was discussed in relation to the theory of the Anlaufvorgange. In conclusion, the author wishes to express his sincere thanks to Dr. S. Miyake and Prof. R. Ueda for their kind advices and encouragements.
