The effect of thermal vibration on the transmission or reflection of neutrons in a single crystal was investigated theoretically. The formula of imaginary potential which is used to get the absorption coefficient was given as a result of thermal inelastic scattering of neutrons. It was made clear that the surface integral taken over the scattering surface is necessary to obtain the imaginary potential of a single crystal for onephonon inelastic scattering of slow neutrons.
