Torque Measurements on a Single Crystal of Metamagnetic Manganese Phosphide

Torque measurements on a single crystal of manganese phosphide are carried out at 4.2°K in a metamagnetic state for three orientations of the single crystal. The characteristic zero torque is observed on the measurements in the orthorhombic ac-plane of the crystal. A cone spiral spin configuration is proposed with the symmetry axis along the b-axis. With this configuration the results obtained are qualitatively explained. The critical fields along the c- and b-axis at 4.2°K are determined as 2.03 kOe and 5.40 kOe, respectively.
