Shubnikov-de Haas effects of bismuth crystals were measured at about O.50°K using a ^3He-cryostat. Single crystals of 99.9999% Purity were prepared by the Bridgman method. Fig. 1a, 1b and 1c show the X-Y recorder traces of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations of bismuth. The binary-, bisectrix- and trigonal-axes are taken as x-, y- and z-axes respectively. When the magnetic field H is parallel to the x-axis (Fig. 1a) or y-axis (Fig.1b), a short period oscillation of approximately O.5x1O^<-5> (Gauss)^<-1> was observed. As shown in Figs. 1a and 1b, this oscillation is more clearly observed at O.5°K. The short period oscillation appearing in Fig. 1b must be due to the hole band, because in this direction of H, such a short period oscillation can not be expected from the Shoenberg's^<1)> election ellipsoid. When H is parallel to the x-axis, both the electron and hole^<2)> band may produce a short period oscillation of about 0.5x1O^<-5> (Gauss)^<-1>. It is concluded, however, that the short period oscillation shown in Fig. 1a is due to the hole band, because a short period oscillation in Fig. 1b tends to that in Fig. 1a without any abrupt change, when H is rotated from the y-axis to x-axis.
