A variable energy 16" Cyclotron was constructed to produce 1〜2Mev deuterons and 2〜4Mev α-particles by new designs in its magnet and oscillator system. As far, deuterons in the energy range from 1.3 to 2Mev and α-particles in the range from 3 to 4Mev are used for (d, p), (α, p) reactions, coulomb excitations etc. Although the variation of accelerating energy for a cyclotron is a considerably difficult problem, we found that it is possible, by some adjustments of the acceleration parameters of the cyclotron, to produce deuterons and α-particles over the sufficiently wide range of energy within a minute. The cyclotron will be used for producing 2〜4Mev protons by changing a part of the resonator.
