The existence of the peculiar plant community in the wind-hole area is mainly due to the low soil temperature there. As the soil temperature goes down, the kinds of appearing plants diminish rapidly and both alpine and sub-alpine plants become dominant. Accordingly, alpine Plante come to grow even in the low-land, on the condition that the soil temperature is low enough.
