Using two sister honeybee colonies, the effect of the pollen trap on the foraging activity was studied. Each colony was started from package bees, 1kg in weight and one of them was fitted with the a pollen trap. Judging from the results, the foraging activity estimated by the number of homing bees during 10 minutes in each hour at daytime was lower in the experimental colony several days after the set up of the pollen trap but recovered in subsequent days. On the other hand, the ratio of pollen foragers to the outdoor workers in the experimental colony was always higher than that of the control colony. There was remarkable difference in the number of honey cells between the experimental and control colonies but there was no such difference in the number of pollen cells. It was considered that these facts strongly indicated the engagement of a considerable proportion of workers to the pollen forager by the setting of the trap, namely the adaptive change of the number engaged to the particular tasks according to the requirement of the colony.
