In this paper the range of one species of mosses is treated. 9. Venturlella sinensis (VENT.) C. MUELL. This species belongs to one of the most attractive corticolous mosses as is commonly found on ruderal trees in Japan and the neighbouring region. A present Vent. sinensis is known from 87 localities (25 of which are hitherto known already and 62 are newly added in this paper), viz. 1 in North-East Honshiu, 16 in Middle Hohshiu, 32 in South-West Honshiu, 14 in Shikoku, 18 in Kiushiu and 4 in Corea. So far as our present knowledge goes, in Japanese Archipelago this plant has its northern limit of the distribution at Sendai (38°16′L.N.) in Miyagi Pref., and in Asia Continent that of the distribution at Hpyeng-Yang (39°L.N.) in Corea. The macrofrequency of this species in each District is shown in table 8. as will be seen from map 9 and table 8,the centre of its distrbiution seems to exist in South-West Japan. As is seen in table 8,the densities of Vent. sinensis in 5 Districts of Japan are arranged in [table] the following order : S. W. Honshiu>Shikoku>Kiushiu>M. Honshiu>N. E. Honshiu, and the distribution-fall^<1)> is clearly seen between M. Honshiu and N. E. Honshiu. According to the present knowledge this species seems to be one of the lowland types, its highest elevation lies at Oshima-mura ascending to 538m above sea level. Area geogr.
