The circular charge density wave and the screening effect of the Coulomb interaction in the π electron system invery large ring polyenes C_<2n>H_<2n> are studied by Tomonaga's method of collective motion. The optical transition in the collective oscillations is allowed only for the charge density wave with the lowest frequency. The plasma quantum and the oscillator strength for this transition are in a excellent parallelism with the results of the experiment. The screened potential of the π-π interaction has a minimum at a small distance of the order of two or three bond lengths. The interaction is much more reduced at shorter distances than Nishimoto-Mataga's expression in the SCF MO treatment but at larger distances it results in a larger potential than the pure Coulomb's one.
