It is necessary for pharmacists to utilize a knowledge of basic physical chemistry and organic chemistry. For example, understanding of the ionic radius of atoms is most important to avoid pharmaceutical incompatibility with inorganic salts of both inorganic and organic drugs. Further, various properties of organic drugs such as oxidative coloration, decomposition, dissolution, moisture absorption and dissociation may be elucidated from acknowledge of an electronic theory of organic chemistry ; the knowledge would also be very helpful to understand the drug interactions.
