• I evaluated the effect of vertical and rotational loads on cell growth activity, intracelluar lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)activity, morphological changes, and the expression of five cytokines on human periodontal ligament cells in vitro.It was found that cell growth and intracelluar LDH activity were reduced as the load increased.Although IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α were expressed in all samples tested, IL-1β and GM-CSF were not.Morphological changes were induced with vertical loads greater than 300g and with rotational loads of 45°.
