• An accurate method for measuring the azimuthal anchoring strength based on the torque balance method has been developed. The method employs homogeneously aligned nematic cell with both edges open. To eliminate the easy axis errors, two actual twist angles were measured for each sample. One is for a liquid crystal with chiral dopant, the other is for the same liquid crystal without dopant. The measured examples are presented.
