As the coke ovens are built up with a great deal of silica bricks, having so many expansion gaps in their bodies, we must keep them warm by some means, when the heating gas has been stopped by the want of coal, etc. In general, it is said to be very hard to reoperate them, if we don't pay a prudent attention to their bodies. The essential point of this experiment of keeping the coke ovens warm during the winner season, exis's in the introduction of hot wind into the coke ovens by means of the hot wind furnace, that is the simple method using less materials, and at the same time, checking the freezing of many silica bricks and also the removing the moisture from the bodies. Then we tried to keep the coking chambers in about 10℃ by means of passing the hot wind through them as follows : -C-gas pipe→flues→gaps in the wall→coking chambers→ascension pipes→the opposite flues→regeneraters→sole flues→waste valves→outside. Now we found the following facts from our experimental results. (1) We could keep the coke ovens warm homogeneously and ideally. (2) The hot wind by electric heating was better than that of coke burning. (3) The volume of the hot wind was an important element, regardless of the temperature, that is, the fan must have large capacity. (4) In our place, we must begin to keep the coke ovens warm in early november at latest. (5) The hot wind by electric heating can be used for other air heating.
