The purpose of this study is to survey psychological factors of newcomer's feelings of adjusting to organizations and jobs, and find out effective hints for facilitating their adjustment and career development. Investigations by the questionnaire which consisted of six main questions were conducted in October 2003. Subjects were 119 newcomers, who had entered employment in April 2003, from four software developing companies which showed higher rate of employees leaving their jobs. The results showed that, by multiple regression analysis, three psychological conditions were necessary to promote their consciousness of adjustment. They are as follows. Newcomers had small successful experiences on their jobs with a certain level of carrying out abilities. They had positive experiences of response from their superiors in good human relations. They could observe troublesome situations actually and composedly, and cope with them optimistically. These results suggested importance of the person in charge of the off and on the job training, who need to be trained practical skills how to response positive messages to the newcomers.
