Natural history learns from nature how things evolve and what are the consequences. The method of natural history consists of measurements, classification, modeling, and discussion. Guided by the modern theory of dynamical systems, we suggest that the principal component analysis together with the cluster analysis in multi-dimensional phase space constructed from a great many kinds of observational data could form mathematical basis of the natural history in a systematic way. Special attention is paid for those mathematical techniques that are also applicable when the evolutionary time scale of the system is too long for continuous observation. We then claim that such mathematical presentation can be a useful language not only for describing natural history but also for analyzing things in any branches of science and technology.
