By taking account of contributions from the Regge poles in the s and u channels, in addition to a long range potential, a short range potential is introduced into a self-consistent calculation with the strip approximation of low energy π-π scattering. When we take only the ρ Regge pole, the l=1 wave projection of this short range potential gets attractive and has the effect to complement the potential so as to reproduce the input resonance width. In both cases with and without taking account of the short range potential, the ρ resonance width is numerically calculated.
