A new soliton-breather theory is presented for the classical statistical mechanics of the massive-Thirring=sine-Gordon model. The theory resolves the existing controversies concerning the Planck constant and the lattice-cutoff dependencies of the free energy, exactly reproduces the transfer matrix method result, and thus gives a conclusive answer to the problem.
